The law case was held in 1954 after a school for white children in Topeka, ↑Kansas, refused to accept a black girl called Linda Brown. The case led to a decision of the US ↑Supreme Court that made ↑segregation in public schools illegal. The decision ended the idea of ‘separate but equal’ schools for whites and ↑African Americans, and encouraged the ↑civil rights movement.
